Renovation projects are tricky assignments, as they offer the opportunity to refresh old space while also risking the disappointment of owners and tenants whose patience has been tried by decay and failure.

Thus was the situation at Atlanta's North Park 400, where leaks had traveled from the 6th floor roof garden down to the 5th floor law firm. Concurrently, the 6th floor restaurant had progressively lost outdoor dining traffic due to the unattractive spalling of the stamped concrete adjacent to its panoramic glass walls.

The roof garden remediation plan was a joint effort between Williamson & Associates and Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates. Their design addressed the need for top-notch technical integrity and aesthetic allure by combining the Hydrotech Ultimate Assembly® with landscaping. As the assembly includes Hydrotech's MM6125® waterproofing – with its 35 year record of excellence – the 5th floor law firm would be shielded from moisture. And because the Ultimate Assembly’s architectural paver finishes vary in color and texture, the roof garden was transformed into an attractive high performance system whose technical merits were best expressed by the owner after the project’s completion: "it's the first time in 12 years that the roof garden hasn't leaked".
