Rooftop vegetable gardens have great potential as educational opportunities. On the roof of the Scholar House in Louisville, KY is a great example of educational growth and a step towards breaking the cycle of poverty.

The Scholar House provides housing for low-income single parents and children, where those families plant and maintain a 3,800-square-foot vegetable garden. It is an opportunity for children to learn about and even try all kinds of new vegetables. American Hydrotech's Garden Roof Assembly creates a great environment for gardens like these because, unlike a container garden, this type of built-up assembly allows nutrients and water to be shared across the roof. This housing program also allows for the parents to pursue degrees from local colleges and universities.
